Sheila Matthews, Elder

Elder Sheila Matthews is a native Baltimorean and a product of the Baltimore City Public School System.  She is a 1976 graduate of Mergenthaler Vocational Technical High School.  Elder Matthews became a Licensed Practical Nurse at the age of 18.  She continued her education and became a Registered Nurse in 1983 and has worked at the profession (nursing) for 30 years.

From childhood Elder Matthews had a love for God.  She attended Sunday School, Vacation Bible School and just loved going to church.  At the age of 12 she accepted Christ and was baptized at Elizabeth Baptist Church. 

Elder Matthews later became the youth advisor and choir director where she served for many years under the late Pastor Stanley Bradford and the late Pastor David Boyd.

In 1997 God spoke to Elder Matthews and said it was time to move because there was new ministry awaiting her.  She then joined a new ministry that God birthed ‘Adonai Ministries (Adonai) meaning Lord, under the leadership of Bishop Michael J. Evans.

Elder Matthews was ordained an Elder in the church on August 25, 2002.  Elder Matthews has studied at the Baltimore School of the Bible, Logos Christian College and Arlington Baptist College.  Currently Elder Matthews serves on the ministerial staff at Adonai and is the Director of Christian Education, Superintendent of Sunday School, member of the Evangelism Ministry and assists with the Missionary Ministry.   Elder Matthews has a passion for teaching and has taught at various seminars, workshops and women’s retreats.

Elder Matthews is the mother of Shevonne Matthews, Marshay Henderson and 1st Lady Shenira Floyd, mother-in-law to Pastor Ryan Floyd and grandmother to Ryan Jr.
